Outlook 2016 for Windows - Creating a POP Account

The following steps will assist you in setting your e-mail account up in Outlook 2016

1. Open Outlook 2016. If the Microsoft Outlook Startup wizard appears, on the first page of the wizard, click Next. Then, on the Add and Email Accounts page, select Yes click Next to set up an e-mail account.

2. If the Microsoft Outlook Startup wizard doesn’t appear, on the Outlook toolbar, click the File tab. Then, just above the Account Settings button, click Add Account.

  • Click Manual setup or additional server types, and then click Next.
  • On the Choose Service page, select POP or IMAP, and then click Next.

3. Provide the following information on the Internet E-mail Settings page:

Under User Information:

  • In the Your Name box, enter the name you want users to see when you send email from this account.
  • In the Email Address box, enter your email address (e.g.: mail@example.com).

Under Server Information:

  • Under Account Type, select POP3.
  • Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.example.com)
  • Outgoing mail server (SMTP): mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.example.com)

Under Logon Information:

  • In the User Name box, enter your entire email address using lowercase characters (e.g.: mail@example.com).
  • In the Password box, enter your password. If you want Outlook to remember your password, make sure the check box next to Remember password is selected.

4. Click on More Settings.

5. Click on the Outgoing Server tab and place a tick in the box labelled My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication.

6. Select the Advanced tab.

7. Ensure that the Incoming server (POP3) port number is 110

8. Change the Outgoing server (SMTP) port number to 587

Then click OK.

9. On the Add New Account page, click Next. After Outlook tests your account, click Close to close the Test Account Settings dialog box.

10. On the Congratulations page, click Finish.
