Receiving E-Mail - Error Code 0x800ccc18

receiving email error

This error occurs in Microsoft Outlook, as well as Outlook Express; Windows Mail for Vista and Windows Live Mail. It will include the message Unable to logon to the server using Secure Password Authentication.

To correct this error, you will need to disable the Secure Password Authentication option:

Outlook Express:

1. Click on Tools, followed by Accounts.

2. Double-click on your e-mail account.

3. Click on the Servers tab.

4. Remove the tick from the box labelled Log on using Secure Password Authentication.

5. Click OK.

Windows Mail (Windows Vista):

1. Click on Tools, followed by Accounts.

2. Double-click on your e-mail account.

3. Click on the Servers tab.

4. Remove the tick from the box labelled Log on using Secure Password Authentication.

5. Click OK.

Windows Live Mail 2009 / 2011 / 2012:

1. Right-click on your e-mail account in the column on the left-hand side of the window and select Properties.

2. Click on the Servers tab.

3. Place a tick from the box labelled Log on using clear text authentication.

4. Click OK.


Outlook 2002 / 2003
:

1. Click on Tools, followed by Email Accounts.

2. Select View or change existing e-mail accounts and click Next.

3. Under the E-mail tab, highlight your e-mail account and select Change.

4. Remove the tick from the box labelled Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).

5. Click on Next.

6. Click on Finish.


Outlook 2007:

1. Click on Tools, followed by Account Settings.

2. Under the E-mail tab, highlight your e-mail account and select Change.

3. Remove the tick from the box labelled Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).

4. Click on Next.

5. Click on Finish.


Outlook 2010 / 2013 / 2016:

1. Click on File, followed by Account Settings.

2. Click on Add and remove accounts or change existing connection settings.

3. Under the E-mail tab, highlight your e-mail account and select Change.

4. Remove the tick from the box labelled Log on using Secure Password Authentication (SPA).

5. Click on Next. Outlook will test your account settings.

6. Click on Close, followed by Finish.
