The following steps will assist you in setting your e-mail account up in Windows Live Mail 2009
:

1. In Windows Live Mail, select Tools / Accounts. (If you don’t see a Tools menu in your version of Windows Live Mail, you may be using Windows Live Mail 2011)

2. In the Internet Accounts box select Add. You will be prompted for the type of account you wish to add. Select E-mail Account and then Next.

3. You will be prompted for the following information:

  • E-mail Address: Enter your entire e-mail address (e.g.: mail@mail.example.com).
  • Password: Enter the password for your e-mail account. Check the Remember password check box.
  • Display Name: This is the name that will appear in the From field of messages you send.
  • Check the Manually configure server settings for e-mail account box and click Next.

4. You will now be prompted to enter the e-mail server information:

  • Click on the drop-down box labelled My incoming e-mail is… and select IMAP.
  • Incoming mail server: mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.example.com)
  • The port number is 143.
  • Do not select This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  • From the Log on using drop-down box select Clear text authentication.
  • Login ID: Enter your entire email address using lowercase characters (e.g.: mail@mail.example.com).
  • Outgoing mail server: mail.yourdomain (e.g.: mail.mail.example.com)
  • The port number is 587.
  • Do not select This server requires a secure connection (SSL).
  • Select My Outgoing server requires authentication.
  • Click Next.

5. Click the Finish button.
